Nintendo has recently had a Board with its investors, where they mostly talk about financial issues and the great profits they have obtained with the success of the consoles Switch . However, they also asked them questions about Super Mario’s film, commenting what kind of challenge has been the game franchise to the cinema.
Here we put the appointment to which it comes in the company’s report:
Investor: I would like to ask him what he thinks about the expansion of the intellectual property of Mario. What expectations should we have for The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which will be released in Japan on April 28, 2023)? Also, how they have advanced with the strategy of expanding the number of people who have access through mobile devices, visual content and thematic parks, with Mario at the head, but in which fields are you considering expanding below? I would like to know about the long term of the expansion of the Nintendo IP.
Miyamoto: For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I have been working together with Mr. Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination, from the beginning, through seven years of planning and six years of production. During that time, we have thought a lot about the appeal of transforming games into movies and what the public seeks.
With novels and comics, people have already enjoyed their stories, so I think the film and adaptations guarantee a certain amount of enjoyment. But with video games, it is the experience that makes them convincing, so a film that adheres to the history of a game is not necessarily interesting. In addition, people who have played the game will wait a movie, experience that is faithful to their memories of the game, while those who have never played the game will wait a movie that is enjoyed as an independent entertainment piece.
I spent a significant amount of time trying to discover how to overcome these two challenges. While it is a bit presumptuous to say it, I think we managed to do it well, so I hope you enjoy the movie. Since around 2014, we have been doing businesses to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP.
Nintendo has gone from being a manufacturer of Nieces Canada to a western card manufacturer to a video game company, but an important aspect throughout these changes, Nintendo has had many characters and its own IP. I like to think of Nintendo as an entertainment agency full of world-class talent. These days, we live in a world where companies that implement and maintain their infrastructure are inevitably investing in energy. But we want to be a strong company that can face anyone creating and administer the content, as well as have the ability to disseminate the content ourselves.
Remember that the film opens on March 30, 2023 .

Editor’s note: It is certainly a miracle that this will happen, because after the disaster of the movie in Live Action, Nintendo took his time to recover. Hopefully the final result is worth it.
